Our latest addition was added to the herd today!

Snowfox had the cutest little girl cria today.  She’s medium to dark brown with two white socks on the front feet and a white stripe across her forward.

We have not selected a name yet.  Any one that sponsors her before she’s named will be given the opportunity to help name her.

Holy Shit: Managing Manure To Save Mankind,  I haven’t read this one but I read The Contrary Farmer (Real Goods Independent Living Book) also by Gene Logsdon and it was very good.

There are many good resources available.  I own the first three of these books and feel comfortable recommending them to any first time chicken or guinea owner.

This list was first publishes as a resource for a talk I’m giving on keeping chickens and guineas on an alpaca farm at Brown’s Orchard while we’re there for our Alpaca Valentines. Here is a link to outline I used for the talk on Farm Fowl.

We are only planning to do one alpaca show this spring and that show is the PAOBA Breeder’s Showcase in York, PA.  It is being held May 8th & 9th 2010 in the Toyota Arena at the York Fairgrounds.  We chose this show because it is close to our farm and we can meet more local people interested in alpacas.

We are planning to take Gaston and Belle, and with them being from the same dam we entered Snowfox in the Produce of Dam class.  We missed an opportunity a couple years ago to enter a Product of Dam class because we thought it took three offspring, like the Get of Sire class, but it only takes two.  As I’m writing this I’m thinking I could have entered Gaston in the Bred and owned yearly class.  I’ll have to see if I can get him in the class.

? Well it’s all over!? At least for us, I’m writing this post at 8:00 PM Sunday evening, having left at around 4:00 PM.? There were still a lot of classes left to go and some people thought it could be going on until 8:00 or 9:00 in the evening.? I sure hope they got it all wrapped up.? Because of a bunch of other stuff going on at the moment this was the first year in several that I haven’t volunteered to help setup and/or tear down.? I just want to thank all those that did volunteer, I know there’s a lot of work involved.
