She took first in her juvenile multi female class.  We couldn’t believe it.  And we weren’t even the only one in the class.

Introducing Thunder Storm ROX

September 3, 2010 Thunder Storm ROX was born at 12:45 to Rose.  There were some small complications and thankful Dr. Anne Parker from Compassion Animal Hospital was nearby and able to assist in the birth.  Thunder’s shoulders were catching on Rose’s pelvis and he was having trouble coming out.  He weighed 16 pounds, which is a nice sized cria, especially for Rose as she’s smaller female.

The interesting things was Snowfox was the one we were watching for giving birth.  She was bred two weeks earlier than Rose so we should have another cria shortly.

Here are some pictures from Thunder’s first day:

Our first 2009 Cria – It’s a GIRL!!!!

We finally had our first cria for the 2009 calendar year, we didn’t have any spring crias.? Born August 20th while we were on vacation everyone is doing fine.? She was 16.5 lbs on the day of her birth, dropped a pound the first day and gained it back by the second.? We were hoping for some color and got white, maybe light fawn if she darkens up some like Gaston did.? But ‘IT WAS A GIRL!’, take that any day over color.

Another new arrival

Rose finally had her cria.? A nice little boy.? He was actually larger than Gaston at birth.? He looks to be about a medium brown.?

Now we need to come up with another cria name.

More cria pictures

One of the first things we did after the cria was born was to get Snowfox shorn as soon as possible.? We would have liked to have done it Saturday morning, but when we learned it was to be near 100 degrees on Friday June 6, 2008 and still hot over the weekend, we wound up shearing Snowfox and Rose in the evenings.? They aren’t the best hand shearing jobs that we’ve done, but at least the fiber is off and the girls are much more comfortable.

Here are a couple more pictures of our newest arrival.? We love how dark his muzzle and feet are.

The baby is often more playful than mom.? Isn’t that always the case?? The kids always have more energy than mom and dad.

Lady Snowfox ROX finally has her cria

? We just had another exciting day at Big Rock Alpaca farm, although not quite as much work as last Friday was.? Snowfox finally had her first cria.? It’s a little boy and he’s doing just fine.? We’re not quite sure what color he is, probably light fawn with really dark pigmentation.? His sire is black after all.? We have not decided on a name yet.

Here is Snowfox with the baby only a couple minutes old.

We are looking forward to a lot of opportunities to see him running the pasture this summer.
